What is the Continuity of Care Experience (CoCE)?

The CoCE offers Mums-to-be the opportunity to voluntarily participate in a program where they are paired with a Student Midwife throughout their pregnancy journey.
The program focuses on woman-centred care and provides support during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the early postpartum period.
Your Student Midwife will learn alongside you, providing care while supervised by experienced midwives. As their knowledge and skills grow, they will become more involved in your care.

When is the best time for a pregnant woman to join?

The ideal timeframe for joining MidwithMe and connecting with a Student Midwife for the CoCE is from pregnancy confirmation up until 28 weeks.
This allows time to explore student profiles, find your match, and give your student the chance to follow your journey more comprehensively.
Mums-to-be can still join up until 32 weeks and still successfully participate.

What are the benefits for Student Midwives?

The CoCE provides hands-on learning for Student Midwives, helping them develop a deeper understanding of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care through the Mums-to-be perspective.
They also gain experience in midwifery skills such as time management, documentation, and building patient relationships.
Additionally, students experience different models of care in real-world clinical environments.

What are the benefits of the CoCE for Mums-to-be?

  • A personal pregnancy journey assistant in the form of your Student Midwife.
  • Build a relationship with a student who will consistently support you throughout your pregnancy.
  • Reassurance from someone who is there to listen and assist under supervision.
  • Choose how and when the student participates in your care.
  • Enjoy regular contact with your student during pregnancy, birth, and after your baby is born.

So, what does the CoCE involve?

  1. Once you’ve paired with a Student Midwife, you will be asked to consider offering opportunities for the student to accompany you through:
  • Antenatal Visits: Attend at least 4 appointments with you.
  • Labour and Birth: Support you during labour and birth (if you’re comfortable).
  • Postnatal Visits: Complete at least 2 follow-up visits after your baby is born.
These requirements may vary by university.
Once completed, your professional relationship with the student concludes.

Can I withdraw from the CoCE program?

Yes, you can withdraw at any time. Simply inform your Student Midwife and unpair with them inside the app.
You can continue to benefit from the features of MidwithMe.

I have 1 or 2 matches, but they seem too far away?

You may have many other students available that live closer to you further down the list.

The matching system shows students who have hospital restriction linked with your birthing hospital first – as it’s a bit tougher for these student restricted to hospitals sometimes.

We do recognise that this is causing confusion, as including the highlighted Birthing hospital for the first or first few profiles and then not having it for the following profiles makes it seem like you cannot pair with these, even though you can. This is something that we are looking into improving.

Is there a limit to how many Student Midwives I can connect with?

You can only pair with one Student Midwife for the Continuity of Care Experience (CoCE). However, you are welcome to chat with multiple students to help you decide who is the best fit for you. Once you pair with a student, they will be your main support during the CoCE.

Do I need to pay any extra fees for using MidwithMe?

No, the platform itself is free to use. There is no cost for accessing the features of MidwithMe.

Can I use MidwithMe if I’m having a home birth?

Yes, MidwithMe can support you if you’re planning a home birth. Simply select that you want to give birth at home when creating your profile, and if you know, enter the affiliated hospital. Some Universities do not support home births, so please check with your students.
