General questions.
MidwithMe® connects pregnant mums with student midwives who are looking for a Continuity of Care Experience as part of their university training. You browse, connect, chat, and when you're ready, you can formally pair with a student to support you through your pregnancy and birth.
Yes. Completely free for both mums and student midwives.
Yes. Every student on MidwithMe is verified using their university email address. Students cannot hold an active account without completing that verification step. You will never be matched with someone who has not been confirmed as an enrolled midwifery student.

For pregnant women.
Sign up at app.midwithme.com.au and complete your profile, including your due date, birth hospital or home birth details, and your location. Once your profile is set, you get access to the Explore page where you can browse student midwives matched to you.
The CoCE is a special program where student midwives follow a mum's pregnancy journey from early pregnancy through to birth and postpartum, under supervision. It's a chance for you to receive ongoing support while helping a student learn through real experience.
Consistent support from a caring student midwife throughout your pregnancy. An additional support and care option for your existing birth team, not a replacement. A friendly, familiar face during appointments, birth, and postnatal care. The chance to share your story and make a real difference in someone's training. Plus tools to stay organised, including your personal dashboard and weekly birth checklist.
The earlier the better, ideally between pregnancy confirmation and 28 weeks. This gives you time to find your student and build a supportive relationship. You can still join up to 34 weeks and participate successfully. Any later is possible but not recommended.
The Explore page shows student midwives who can support you at your birth location, are within travelling distance, and are actively engaged on the platform. They're ranked so the most responsive and active students appear first.
Four things shape who you see. Your birth hospital or home birth setting determines which students are eligible based on hospital rules. The student must have set a travel radius that reaches your location. Students are matched within your state. And students who are inactive or unresponsive are automatically filtered lower or out of results entirely.
This can happen if your hospital has restrictions that limit which students can attend, or if there are no active students nearby who can travel to you. Email connect@midwithme.com.au and we'll do our best to help.
It means the student lives close to you. It's a helpful indicator if you want someone geographically nearby for things like attending appointments or being on call near your due date.
Yes. If you haven't selected a hospital, matching is based on your home address and suburb. You can still browse and connect. When you do add a hospital, the matching updates immediately.
Update it in your profile and the matching updates straight away. You may see a different set of students after the change depending on your hospital's policies.
Update your address in your profile. The location matching recalculates immediately and your Explore results will reflect your new location.
Home births are linked to an affiliate hospital in your area. The same matching rules apply through that affiliate hospital. You'll still see students who can support you based on your location and your affiliate hospital's policies.
Different hospitals have different rules for student midwife involvement at births. Some don't allow it at all, some only during a student's active placement, some require formal placement affiliation, and some have no restrictions. We do the research and build the rules into the platform, so the Explore page only shows you students who can actually be there for your birth.
We research and update them regularly and do our best to keep them current. Hospital policies do change. When you connect with a student, always confirm directly with them that they can support you at your chosen birth location. If something seems off, let us know. We genuinely want to get it right.
It's the first step. When you find a student you're interested in, you send them a connection request. This opens a chat so you can get to know each other. You can send connection requests to multiple students at the same time.
A pair request is the formal commitment step. When you've found your person and you're ready to commit, you send a pair request. Once paired with a student, you can no longer connect with new students. It's the "we're doing this together" moment.
Yes. You can have conversations with multiple students while you're getting to know who feels like the right fit. Pairing is the step where you commit to one.
Yes. If your circumstances change or the match isn't working out, you can unpair. Contact us if you need help.
Students who leave mums on read are penalised by the platform. The longer they leave it, the further they drop in results. If a student isn't responding, you're not obligated to wait. Connect with someone else. The system is designed to surface students who actually show up.
No. A connection request is what opens the chat. Sending one is the first step toward a conversation.
They may have temporarily hidden their profile (Ghost Mode), which automatically reactivates after a set number of days. Or they may have finished their CoCE and are no longer taking new connections. Either way, any existing conversations you already have with a student are not affected.
It means the student has finished their Continuity of Care Experience hours and is no longer looking for new connections. If you were already in conversation with them before they marked complete, that conversation stays open.
Once paired, you'll be asked to consider offering opportunities for the student to accompany you through key stages: at least four antenatal visits, labour and birth (if you're comfortable), and at least two postnatal visits after baby is born. Requirements vary slightly between universities. Once your student has completed their required visits, your professional relationship concludes.
Go to your account settings and select change password. You'll be prompted to enter your current password and choose a new one.
Go to your account settings and update your email. You'll need to verify the new address before the change takes effect.
Yes. Go to your account settings and select delete account. Please refer to our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions for full details on what happens to your data when you delete your account.
Your account stays active. You can continue any existing conversations with your student. You're not automatically removed from the platform.

For student midwives.
Sign up at app.midwithme.com.au and complete your profile with details like your university, hospital affiliations, travel distance, and a short bio. Once your profile is live and verified, mums-to-be can find and contact you to begin a potential CoCE.
Yes. Creating and maintaining a student account is free.
During registration you'll be asked to verify your university email address. A verification link is sent to that address. You must complete this to hold an active account. Students who haven't verified cannot appear in mum results.
Your university-issued email address. Personal email addresses are not accepted for verification.
Email connect@midwithme.com.au and we'll work through it with you. Verification is required before you're discoverable by mums, so it's worth sorting early.
Build meaningful continuity of care relationships. Gain real-world experience in antenatal, labour, and postnatal care. Grow your confidence and communication skills in a supported environment. Stay organised through your dashboard. Access study and wellbeing resources, plus brand partner discounts.
The platform measures how engaged and responsive you are. The more consistently you reply to mums and stay active, the higher you rank. Students who go quiet or leave mums waiting drop lower. The behaviour the platform rewards is straightforward: show up, reply promptly, stay engaged.
Four possible reasons. Your engagement may have dropped low enough to hide you from explore. Your travel radius may not cover the area where mums are searching. Your hospital affiliation may not match any mum's birth hospital. Or your location may be out of date. Check all four in your profile and settings.
Reply to mums quickly. The faster you respond, the better you rank. Stay active on the platform. Don't leave mums waiting without a reply. Keep your profile details accurate, including your location, hospital affiliations, and travel radius.
Reply to any mum who is waiting on a message from you. Your visibility updates in real time the moment you send a reply. You'll reappear immediately.
Some factors update in real time the moment a message is sent or received. Others recalculate overnight. Replying to a mum is the fastest way to improve your standing immediately.
A penalty is applied to your visibility. It increases the longer you leave it. The penalty clears the moment you reply. Consistently ignoring mums will drop you to the bottom of results or hide you from explore entirely.
It's the maximum distance you're willing to travel to support a mum. You set this in your profile. If your radius doesn't reach a mum's location, you won't appear in her results regardless of your ranking.
Set it to what you can genuinely commit to. Too small and you miss mums you could help. Too large and you risk connecting with a mum you can't actually reach. Be honest about what's realistic for you.
Yes. Update your location in your profile straight away. The matching recalculates immediately.
If a mum has selected a birth hospital, distance is measured from your location to her hospital. If she hasn't chosen a hospital yet, it's measured to her home suburb. The closer you are, the higher you're prioritised among similarly-ranked students.
The hospital list in MidwithMe only includes hospitals where you must be formally affiliated through your university placement to support a mum birthing there. If your hospital is in the list and you don't select it, mums birthing at that hospital won't find you, even if you're legitimately placed there.
It either doesn't have placement restrictions, or we haven't added it yet. If you believe your hospital has placement restrictions and it's missing, contact us. We update the list regularly and will look into adding it.
Update your hospital affiliation in your profile immediately. Outdated info means mums who should see you won't, and mums you can't support may connect with you.
Tell her directly. If your situation has changed and you can no longer support her at her birth location, it's your responsibility to communicate that honestly.
Yes. List your placement hospitals in your profile under hospital affiliations. This helps mums birthing at those hospitals find you first.
Ghost Mode temporarily hides your profile from the explore page for a set number of days. You choose how long. When the timer runs out, your profile reappears automatically. Your existing conversations are not affected.
Go to Account Modes in your settings. Enter how many days you want, then type "confirm" in the prompt. Ghost Mode activates immediately.
Yes. Go to Account Modes and tap "Turn off ghost mode." It deactivates immediately and your profile becomes visible again.
No. If a mum is waiting on a reply when you activate Ghost Mode, you're still penalised for not responding. Check your inbox and reply to anyone waiting before you go dark.
Yes. Ghost Mode is the way to do this. Set it for however many days you need and your profile is hidden for that period. Your account, conversations, and ranking all remain intact. When the timer runs out you reappear automatically.
It's a setting that hides your profile when you've finished your Continuity of Care Experience and are no longer looking for new connections. Your account stays active and your existing conversations remain open. No new mums will be able to find you.
Go to Account Modes in your settings and tap "I have completed my CoCE." Type "confirm" in the prompt. Your profile is hidden immediately.
Yes. If your circumstances change, go to Account Modes and tap "Reactivate my profile." Your profile becomes visible again straight away.
When you've completed your hours and are moving on, you can mark CoCE Complete to hide your profile from new mum searches. If you no longer need the account at all, you can delete it from account settings. If you just need a temporary break before your final CoCE, Ghost Mode is the better option since it expires automatically.
Yes. CoCE Complete only hides you from new mum searches. Your existing conversations stay open and you can continue messaging any mum you're already connected with.
It's a message a mum sends to open a chat with you. When you receive one, you get a notification. Replying opens the conversation. You can be in active conversations with multiple mums at the same time.
A pair request is a mum formally committing to you. Once she sends it and you accept, she can no longer connect with new students. It's the point where the relationship becomes exclusive on her side.
Yes. You can have conversations with multiple mums at the same time. Talk to your university about what's appropriate for your specific CoCE requirements.
Let her know respectfully through the chat. The platform doesn't force either party into a commitment.
Go to your account settings. Select change password to update your password. Update your email there too. You'll need to verify any new email address before the change takes effect.
Yes. Go to account settings and select delete account. Please refer to our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions for full details on what happens to your data.
Use Ghost Mode to hide your profile for however long you need. Your account stays exactly as it is and reactivates automatically when the timer runs out.
